Although numerous election disputes are still being heard at the Constitutional Court, the General Elections Commission (KPU) announces Sunday which candidates secured seats in the House of Representatives and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD), including two cases where candidates passed away after being elected. The KPU declared the late Sutradara Gintings of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle's (PDI-P) and late Henri Usman of the Democratic Party (PD) elected lawmakers, pending administrative processes to replace them three weeks before House and DPD members take office on Oct. 1. Sutradara will be replaced by Malawati, and Henri by Albert Yaputera. “The KPU's decision is still tentative. It can change depending on the Constitutional Court's verdicts.,”KPU chairman Abdul Hafidz Anshary said. The Constitutional Court is hearing nearly 600 cases, which range from cases of alleged electoral fraud and disputed allocation of legislative seats. The Court has promised to resolve all these cases by June 24. “We decided to announce the elected candidates just to meet the deadline,” Hafidz said. Earlier, the KPU had considered announcing only the undisputed elected candidates. KPU has also allowed elected candidates to withdraw and their political parties to nominate their replacements. PD's Freddy Numberi, who is also the minister for fishery and maritime affairs, has opted to give up the legislative seat he secured from Papua electoral district. While his reason for withdrawal remains unknown, KPU will likely name Milton Pakpahan his substitute. “Based on Law No. 10/2008 of the Election Laws, the decision to name substitutes is [done on] the authority of the party leaders and we will respect it,” Hafidz said. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s son, Edhie Baskoro, earned the highest number of votes nationwide. Edhie, who competed in the East Java VII electoral district, collected 327,097 votes, followed by former president Megawati Soekarnoputri’s daughter Puan Maharani, who earned 242,504 votes in the Central Java V electoral district. The KPU also announced that PDI-P’s legislator Hasto Kristiyanto, who is also the secretary of the campaign team for the Megawati-Prabowo Subianto presidential ticket, failed to keep his seat, while the PD’s Jhoni Allen Marbun kept his seat, despite his link to a graft case. House Speaker Agung Laksono from the Golkar Party also won back his legislative seat, thanks to a revision of KPU's seat allocation policy. The next House will also welcome a number of celebrities including the PD’s Venna Melinda, the National Mandate Party’s (PAN) Primus Yustisio, the PDI-P’s Rieke Diah Pitaloka, Golkar’s Nurul Arifin, Rachel Martam of the Great Indonesia Movement’s (Gerindra) and Okky Asokwati of the the United Development Party’s (PPP). What will happen next on the House of Representatives?? Are they have capabilities to solve Indonesian problems?? Are they have a valuable vision what will they do for this country?? or just flow like a water??? This will be a disaster for Indonesia if their representative have no capabilities.
