Police and hospital officials say six people have been killed and at least 39 injured in a pair of powerful blasts that hit two luxury hotels in Mega Kuningan business area in downtown Jakarta. Dr. Cahyono of the Jakarta Hospital said six people were killed in explosions at the Ritz-Carlton and Marriott hotels Friday morning. Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Chrysnanda also put the death toll at six. At least 39 victims, including foreigners, were treated at Jakarta Hospital, Metropolitan Medical Center (MMC), and Medistra Hospital. The first explosion reportedly occurred at Marriot hotel at around 8 a.m., followed by a second explosion at Ritz-Carlton hotel minutes later. Witnesses said the second explosion was louder. The Marriott hotel was attacked in 2003, when 12 died. Southeast Asian terror network Jamaah Islamiyah was blamed for that blast. Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Widodo AS says nine people have been killed and at least 42 injured in two powerful blasts that hit two luxury hotels in Mega Kuningan business area in downtown Jakarta. Widodo told reporters that six of the victims were killed at the Marriot hotel, two others at the Ritz-Carlton hotel and one died in hospital. He also said that as at least 42 injured victims, including 13 foreigners, were being treated at four hospitals in Jakarta. Police have yet to state whether bombs caused the explosions.
