The five-star JW Marriott Hotel in Medan has been gutted by fire, state news agency Antara is reporting.
The fire broke out about 11 a.m., causing hundreds of employees and guests to rush out of the building in panic.
Parlaungan Simanjuntank of the Medan fire brigade said the source of the fire was not yet known.
“We don’t know where the fire started, but the smoke is very thick,” he told Antara.
