Comr. Gen. Susno Duadji, the nation’s former most senior detective, arrived at National Police headquarters in Jakarta on Thursday for his fourth straight day of questioning, apparently in relation to his knowledge of the Gayus Tambunan case he first exposed.
Gayus Tambunan is a mid-level tax official charged with corruption in a scandal that allegedly implicates a number of senior police officers, members of the Attorney General’s Office and other government officials in various forms of corruption and collusion.
Susno, who blew the lid on the case and fingered murky sometimes government official Sjahril Djohan as a case broker based at National Police headquarters, has also been implicated in allegedly accepting a Rp 500 million ($55,000) bribe from the same man.
Senior police sources have previously told the Jakarta Globe that Susno would soon be arrested in connection with the accusations.
One of Susno’s lawyers, Ari Yusuf Amir, would not comment on the possibility that his client could be named a suspect.
“We have no idea but let’s not get ahead of ourselves,” Ari told Metro TV.
Critics of police say the investigation is an attempt to muzzle Susno and keep a lid on the damaging accusations that continue to tarnish the name of an already unpopular institution.
