Indonesian Rupiah must be attenuated

Economist Dradjad Hari Wibowo suggested that the Indonesian government started to depreciate or weaken the rupiah exchange rate in order to anticipate the war phenomenon that hit the global.

"In fact, Indonesia should have since the first quarter of 2010 had been doing depreciation of the rupiah through a series of fiscal and monetary policy," said Dradjad in a short message in Jakarta, Monday, October 11, 2010.

He stressed since the beginning of the year, he has expressed this through a variety of media that is too strong rupiah exchange rate against the U.S. dollar and other world currencies. However, the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Commerce and Bank Indonesia lulled by the export performance is still high.

"As a result, they were too late to anticipate how serious the global exchange of war this will happen and what the implications for Indonesia in the future," he said.

Now, according to him, already a bit late for Indonesia to prepare themselves to face war exchange. Ironically, the three authorities was like letting a flood of short-term capital flows are speculative. And this makes too overvalued rupiah.

Dradjad third emphasizes the authorities should look to the future. Do not be lulled by the export performance of past and present. But, take anticipatory policy to maintain Indonesia's trade balance in the future.

All three, you should immediately sit down together for the rupiah to depreciate slowly, gradual and controllable. Better to prevent the exchange rate before the war effect world economic disturb Indonesia than sorry later on.

"The key economic leadership is the vision for the future, not past data."

From the beginning of the year until the end of September, to some Asean countries such as Thailand's currency (Bath) rose 9.27 percent, the Philippines (Peso) rose 5.08 percent, and Malaysia (Ringgit) rose 11.01 percent.

Meanwhile, the rupiah strengthened 5.6 percent. Currently, the rupiah traded in the range of Rp8.900 per U.S. dollar, is far more stronger than earlier this year. Indonesia Today
