Malaysia claims Silat as National Culture


Prime Minister of Malaysia, Najib Razak, asked the young generation in Malaysia to conserve the silat martial art. For Najib, silat is a third layer of defense Malaysia.

Similarly, Najib said during stay in touch with the managers of the Association of Art Gayong Malaysian Silat in Ampang Jaya, near Kuala Lumpur, Sunday, October 3, 2010.

"Seeing you young people, I feel young people are facing the Malays who are ready to face any challenge to the sovereignty of the nation," said Najib was quoted as saying the Malaysian government news agency, Bernama. "I also regard silat as one important force for national defense structure," said Najib.

According to him, silat is a third layer of defense after the military, police and territorial forces. Najib then invites young people to practice martial arts Malaysia to take part in preserving the traditional Malay art.

"We are proud of this heritage. The world and the rich Malay culture with values that are passed down for centuries," said Najib. The dialogue was the visit, Najib received his honorary "Cloth Crown Series Rainbow Stars Agong Imam Caliph" of the local martial arts administrators.
