Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) will be friendly to the citizens of Indonesia (WNI) crossing border into Sarawak, as long as they meet the requirements of Malaysia-Indonesia border committee.
Malaysian Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the army would not stop the neighboring country citizens who cross the border who have permits issued by the Immigration. If not, crossing boundaries will be managed by the Indonesian authorities.
"It can be seen at the weekend market in Serikin, most sellers are from Indonesia. It shows we support the improvement of good relations between the two countries," said he, like the Malaysian sites loaded Digest, Monday, October 4, 2010.
Zahid said joint patrols between the ATM and armed forces along the border of Sarawak and Kalimantan, in Serikin, Komodo, and Tebedu show good relations the two countries be neighbors.
He explains, joint patrols have been successful to control the smuggling of LPG gas, oil, and sugar from Sarawak to Kalimantan.
Conversely, controlling smuggling rare animals, turtle eggs, air rifle and batik from Kalimantan to Sarawak.
Contraband goods worth RM143, 987 seized last year. This figure shows a decrease by 20 percent to and the number decreased by 20 per cent to RM119, 465 this year.
