Indonesian Olympic team won third place in the gold medal at the Olympics the International Earth (International Earth Science Olympiad) 4th in Yogyakarta, 19 to 28 September 2010.
As host to the IESO-4 this, Indonesia has won two gold and six silver. Taiwan's contingent won first rank with three gold and one silver, followed by the South Korean team with two gold.
Indonesia won the gold medal of participants from a representative SMA Negeri 3 Yogyakarta, Rio Priandi Nugroho (18), who has studied at the Faculty of Earth Science and Technology Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB). Two issues are tested in the Olympic drought in the district of Gunung Kidul as local issues and environmental change as an international issue. The participants also practiced at a number of unique landscapes in Yogyakarta, including caves and underground rivers in Bribin, Gunung Kidul.
Chairman of the Indonesian delegation, Saptono Budi Ocean, expressed pride in the achievements of the Indonesian team. According to him, though not the first rank, achievements Indonesia this year increased more than participation in the IESO before. At first IESO in South Korea, Indonesia won four bronze medals, while the IESO to-3 in Taiwan for the better with the achievements of one silver and two bronze medals.
"If you look back, Indonesia has three times following the IESO and his performance continues to increase. I'm proud, especially because our host, and can show that we are quite able to speak at international forums, at least been able to match the Japanese," said Saptono. Indonesia Today
