President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono asked the TNI chief Gen. Djoko Santoso to prepare their respective teams of two teams from the three armed Land, Sea and Air and the RI State Police. The players eventually could be an alternative to seeking seed players in the national team.
"Related to the President's request some time ago, it began the football tournament to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the TNI," said Djoko Santoso in his speech before the opening tournament at Madya Stadium, Bung Karno, Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday afternoon.
President Yudhoyono on the occasion to kick to begin the inaugural game between the Army Football Association (PSAD) Bhayangkara PS B versus A, which eventually won by PSAD B 2-1.
"If PSSI was not able to find a good player, I will try to do it," said the President shortly.
The tournament is followed by a team of eleven Army, Navy and Air Force as well as PS Giro Post, Liverpool Central, Liverpool East, and South Liverpool. Besides using Madya Stadium, the tournament will also be held at the Stadium Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta and Rawamangung Stadium. The tournament runs from this Thursday until 3 October.
