14 Students Arrested for refusing nightclub


Students action that protested permission of nightclub in Makassar end chaos. They are clashed with dozens of policemen from Polrestabes Makassar before Maghrib.

Initially, the students staged in front of the entrance to the Clarion Hotel, they also burn tires.

They demanded the closure of nightclub in the Hotel Clarion permission for reasons of violating local regulation (perda) Makassar No. 2 of 2002.

Ino, Student Coordinator said, entertainment place called Retro and Liquid is considered too close to the center of education.

"Not until 100 meters from the campus of State University of Makassar (UNM). Yet in one set point regulation, nightclub should be located not less than 100 meters from the center of education. So to be closed," shouted Ino in his speech on Friday afternoon, October 15, 2010 .

The confrontation with security forces heated up when a student threatened to occupy the Hotel Clarion until their demands are met.

Police then tried to negotiate with protesters. Moreover, burning tires in the middle of the road jammed the traffic flow at Jalan AP Pettarani.

However, negotiations deadlocked. Police later forced to dismiss the action. Some students then captured and jailed.

The police action angered other students later. They then take the fight and throwing against the police.

Instead, the police did not stay silent and take the fight. They also pursue students and re-capture the students who still survive.

Kapolrestabes Makassar, the Commissioner of Police Nur Samsu Alam said, the students were arrested for disturbing the activity of the general public who use the road Pettarani AP.

"Major violation because they did not notify students of their action against the police according to law. So we catch them, "said Kapolrestabes Makassar, Police Sr. Comr Samsu Nur Alam.

He added, recorded 14 protesters were arrested in these actions, some of them are high school students. Who are they, can not be called because it is still under investigation.
