Ages 7 Inscription Found in Kali Cikapundung


Archaeological Institute of Bandung ensure a stone inscription bearing the ancient Sunda letter found at the home of a grandfather named Oong Rusmana, 62, a resident Cimaung, Kelurahan Taman Sari, Bandung District Wetan, Bandung. The inscription is believed to have originated from the 7th century AD.

Associate Research Team at the Institute for Preservation of Historical and Traditional Values Bandung, Nandang Rusnandar, says this is the first inscription found in river flow Cikapundung. "This is the first inscriptions, related to the same invention terracotta (castings of clay) in Dago Pakar," he met at the location of the inscriptions, Tuesday, October 5, 2010.

According Nandang, inscriptions includes 12 letters of the Ancient Sundanese, which if connected to two sentences that read "Ung ga ga t l ja, ja ma dha h p."

"The sentence in the form of UGA (divination, ed.). This means that each human being on earth will experience a disaster. It's kind of prediction and remind the next generation to not do something destructive," said Nandang.

Meanwhile, researchers from the Institute for Archaeologists Bandung, Lutfi Yondri, said two lines of writing was very neat and flat because it uses the flat stone. "Written in stone andesite with the first letter 15 centimeters long, and the second 20 centimeters, tall letters are about 3.5 centimeters and 2.5 centimeters," he said.

In addition, there are other symbols shaped feet, palms of the hands and face images. "Judging from the character perhaps from the 11th century, but if the associated inscriptions in Bandung which enter classical period around the 7th century, as in the Temple Bojong Menje," he said. "But it still needs further verification."

Antiquities Section Head of Culture and Tourism of West Java, Romlah, said there needs saving measures inscriptions given presence in the middle of settlement residents.
